Janette Richelia Is an experienced school social worker with over thirteen years experience helping students develop skills for emotional well-being and self-regulation. The SLOW Your System approach is a body sensation focused method of regulation that supports children through a strategy-focused approach using strategies such as progressive muscle relaxation  and breathing techniques.

Each of the photocopiable activities is accompanied by a facilitator script for use as a guide to engaging in a meaningful conversation with a child and the activities are intended for use with five to eleven year olds.

There are sixteen activities in total, covering topics such as:

  • Body sensations
  • Slow your thoughts
  • Slow your stomach
  • Slow your skin sensations
  • Card Games to practise the skills

Strategies are provided in a fun and engaging format that help the child to recognise how they might react in certain stressful situations and how to select the most appropriate response for coping, such as yoga poses, alternate nostril breathing or progressive relaxation.

This book would be useful for parents and in school settings, as part of well-being programmes to raise self-awareness and positive interactions with others.
