Earlier this year, I spoke to Sharon Jeacock at length about her struggle to get appropriate support for her autistic son Charlie. It’s an infuriating, touching story, especially when you think about the different young man he might have grown up to be if he’d had the right support early on. We’ve titled the story “Gold Dust”, because this was how Charlie’s teachers described the EHCP (or Statement as it was then) he so badly needed. You can read the story on page 11.
AI is everywhere these days, and some of it is really helpful. In John Dalton’s excellent article on page 41, he explains how AI can help SEN professionals to provide personalise learning, adapted to individual learning styles. On page 53, Jo Grace writes entertainingly and thoughtfully about hidden sensory differences. She explains hyper-visual processing using the analogies of TV tech and city break weekends. Read the article and you’ll see what she means. I’d like to pontificate about all the great articles in this issue, but what would be the point? You can read them yourself by turning the pages. As ever, we would like to extend our appreciation to all our wonderful advertisers, contributors and readers, without whom SEN Magazine wouldn’t be possible.
Don’t forget— if there’s something you need to get off your chest, please write it down and send it to us at [email protected]. We’d love to hear from you. For more information about writing for SEN Magazine, please visit senmagazine.co.uk/editorial-guidelines.
